Linton Women's Institute (South Derbyshire)
Linton WI usually meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month (please see our Calendar for variations).
The meeting runs from 7pm until about 9.30pm.
We meet at Linton School, Main Street, Linton, Swadlincote, Derbyshire.
Visitors normally attend for two or three times before deciding whether to join the group.
Visitors are asked to sign the registration book. There is a £1.00 charge for tea and biscuits. The raffle is 50p and is optional
We all stand and sing Jerusalem.
WI Business: The minutes of last meeting are read.
Information is given on trips and forthcoming events: e.g. meals out, bus trips, walks, games night, croquet.
Speaker: A wide variety of topics are offered throughout the year.
Vote of Thanks.
Social Time: Tea and biscuits are served. There is usually a light hearted quiz. The raffle is drawn.
There is a very friendly welcoming atmosphere.
The annual cost of joining the Women's Institute is £33.00 This is due in January.
The cost includes a monthly copy of The Derbyshire Link. This is a magazine which gives information about local WIs in action, subcommittee news etc.
You will receive a programme of the year's speakers. TH means Tea Hostess, it is their job to bring the milk and biscuits, and serve them after the vote of thanks. The Assistant Tea Hostesses' job is to help the hostesses serve the tea and biscuits, wash up and clear away afterwards.
Members also receive copies of WI Life through the post. This is the national glossy magazine of the W I with articles giving an insight into WI activities and influences.

Linton WI is part of the Seales group which includes Netherseal, Stapenhill, Walton on Trent, Caldwell and Newhall. Every six months a group meeting is held when members from the group meet for a night of light entertainment, competitions and supper. Each WI takes turns to organise the night.
All WI's in Derbyshire belong to the Derbyshire Federation of Women's Institutes (DFWI) members from all DFWI meet twice a year. The Winding Wheel in Chesterfield is the venue in March, and the Assembly Rooms in Derby is where the October meeting is held. Inspirational speakers have included - Gloria Hunniford, Pam Ayres and Dame Jenni Murray.
There is an Annual General Meeting of WI every June. In recent years these have been held at a variety of venues around the country e.g. Cardiff, Liverpool and London. One representative of the Seales group usually attends. Resolutions on current issues are discussed in our May meeting; our votes are taken to this meeting by our representative.
